Subsequently, a judge ordered justified preventive detention against him.

María Elena Ríos has reported that the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, would be involved in an attempt to help Vera Carrizal escape. Recently, the activist appeared at the hospital where the former deputy was to assault one of his daughters. Later, during the visit of President Cuauhtémoc Sheinbaum, she announced that she was ending her protest, citing the lack of security for women in Oaxaca.

The Undersecretariat of Prevention and Social Reintegration of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection reported that Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal remains hospitalized in a hospital in Oaxaca de Juárez, receiving secondary level medical attention. It was reported that he suffered a fainting spell due to complications arising from pre-existing conditions, but his health is being monitored.

Despite rumors about his death, authorities have not confirmed such information so far. Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal was linked to the process in 2020 for the acid attack against María Elena Ríos in September 2019 in Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca.
